Who We Are
Function Interactive is a handful of talented individuals who have worked together in various capacities for many years. Our collective portfolio of work includes design and development for Facebook, Yahoo!, Skype and Tencent QQ. We still develop applications for large internet players, but we equally enjoy working with entrepreneurs and small business owners who have amazing services or products to offer the world.
The Function Interactive StoryFunction Interactive was founded by Will Bunton and Slava Vorotaev in 2005. The company initially built applications for such British business giants as BT, GlaxoSmithKline and Barclays. The development of custom applications was nothing new for Will or Slava. Will spent almost a decade developing software for Microsoft before launching Function Interactive and Slava is best known for his work with Skype, Tencent QQ and DotRage's SoundSpell music collaboration applications. In 2008, Function Interactive started developing social applications for clients seeking to better integrate their businesses with social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. During this same period, Chris Ennis and Brian Campbell were launching 365 Creative, a business that worked with clients to build a better integration with the social web. Each company was going down similar paths. In January of 2009, Campbell and Ennis acquired partial ownership of Function Interactive, Ltd. With this business partnership, 365 Creative rebranded itself and began operating as Function Interactive LLC. Today, Function Interactive is an organization that operates primarily out of United States and United Kingdom, with partners working from various locations around the globe.
Methodology
We're building a better world, one web application or website at a time. When you've been building websites and applications for 15 years, you've seen pretty much everything. Our team has been through the trenches of large web development projects on more than a few occasions. Through this we've learned a thing or two. Actually we've learned a lot. Knowing how to build a great application is important but knowing how to steer clear of potential obstables that can jeopardize schedule or budget is vital.
Our ProcessYou know what you want to accomplish when you set out to build a web product. We know how to build it. Our development process is divided into the following phases:
-
Discovery
During the discovery phase, our planners work hands on with the client to determine what the client truly wants. -
Definition
Once our team has a firm understanding of the client's objectives, we being a definition phase where planners and developers work with the client to determine exactly how Function Interactive will turn this dream into a reality. The definition phase involves a period of evaluation where the development team works directly with the client to define what is and isn't technically feasible. -
Mindmapping
Once definition has been completed, Function Interactive develops a mindmap that show overall organization of the site/application. This mindmap is the essential piece that kickstarts the documentation phase, which we will discuss shortly. -
Wireframing
The wireframe is the visual representation of each of the previous three phases. With the wireframe, the client is able to view a partially functional site that demonstrates how features and functionality will be organized. -
Prototyping
In certain instances, usually when an entrepreneur needs a more interactive application for a pitch, a prototype is built from the approved wireframes. This prototype is a hybrid of the wireframe and the finished product. -
Design Proofs
A series of designs are developed based on the approved wireframe. This series of designs are submitted to the client for feedback. Through this process, Function Interactive is able to find the design that best suits the client's needs and taste. -
Content Consultation
If the project involves development of a website, Function Interactive will consult with the client on content for the site. This consultation includes a competitive SEO analysis and development of a strategy to succeed in the most competitive spaces. -
Alpha
The alpha phase is the initial testing period where the application or site is released to a private group for use and feedback. This phase is designed to insure the product meets the expectations of the client. -
Beta
The beta phase is a period where the site is open to the public and vigorously monitored by Function Interactive's development team. During this phase the development team will perform rigorous QA testing that is designed to diagnose any potential issues that might exist. -
Launch
Once the product has passed all critical testing involved in the Beta phase and the client has completed final approval documentation, the product is officially launched. Function Interactive works with various marketing and publicity firms to offer services that will draw attention to the newly released site/application.
